What I Really Think About Black Panther?

I finally got to watch Black Panther after all the hype surrounding it died down. I was a little late to the hype about it, but I finally watched it and LOVED IT!!! For any anime heads out there, I watched Hunter X Hunter and loved the King Meruem. He was the villain, but I sympathized with him and I liked him better than many of the protagonists. Well, that’s how I felt with Black Panther. I liked the protagonist more, but the villain was spitting straight up facts and knowledge you cannot deny and only good writing can make you feel some sorrow for the villain. Now I don’t want to spoil anything,  but I’m guessing that the majority of you guys already saw it because again, I’m late to the party. But, this movie was great in every aspect. One of the many aspects that I loved in the movie was the BLACK female empowerment. I not only liked it for obvious reasons such as black girls, especially of darker skin tone, being represented but also because it illuminated female empowerment in the best way: being strong and guarded. Now, every woman doesn’t have to know how to fight to be empowered. But, I liked how the women took actions without authority AND I liked how it wasn’t in a sexual manner. These days, we see female empowerment being too connected with sexuality. Although I do see how this is just, in 2018, I’m tired of just seeing the same old of women always showing their bodies or talking about it just to feel in control. Female empowerment is more than that and I definitely think people have misconstrued its importance and definition to a point where female empowerment is limited to one view, I’ll talk more about this a different time. I remember seeing an article on The Guardian about how 4.8% of black writers write for T.V. Although I’m not sure about film specifically, I assume it’s a relatively small group of black people in the mix. So Ryan Coogler congrats on your amazing success and you better enjoy it. It’s amazing seeing all the praise this movie is getting and I’m glad Ryan Coogler is on the pedestal representing.
