There’s a time when everyone goes through that stan phase of being completely obsessed with an artist. I had those moments, but nowadays there is no one on my pedestal. But, in this day in age, these stans anger me so much that it interferes with my ability to even like the artists. With stan accounts having no lives and defending these artists as if they were their family members, it becomes annoying receiving hate when you voice an unpopular, constructive, and even truthful opinion.
One time, I posted a comment on Youtube regarding a Little Mix video called Power. I said something along the lines of the song is about sex, but the actual video is great as it showed LGBTQ signs, etc. Seconds later, I received a comment about the song being about women’s empowerment which is true, but through sex. I received even more comments basically saying that I was dumb, a bitch, and that I was totally wrong. At that time I remember arguing back with everyone, not in a mean manner just proving my point, and being so angry as to how harsh everyone was towards me. I even remember quoting lyrics that depicted what I was saying and everyone was delusional enough to keep attacking me. The irony presented was so disgusting. Here we are with a song that is about empowerment, although I question this a bit, yet these stans are attacking strangers with pure ignorance on the net.
After seeing a comment regarding Little Mix’s new song today about the unfair line distribution of the new song, I agreed with the person. Then, some stan accounts made a comment, they usually have their profile pic with of the artist, turned the situation into a bigger one by claiming that the original commenter hates the girls and is trying to ruin their friendship, blah blah blah. Although no one directly replied to me, I deleted my comment, as I did with my first comment because on Youtube that is the only way to stop receiving notifications. I wasn’t going through the back and forth again with a teenager who is so far up an artist’s behind that they are too naive and foolish enough to not only see the truth, but that the artists themselves can be criticized by anyone.
In the height of social media, stan accounts create many issues. With leading to cyberbullying and actual altercations between the artists themselves, Nicki and Cardi, stan accounts these days do more harm than good. It becomes more about being an asshole to those who have an opinion than defending their beloved God/Goddess. Facts are meaningless these days which honestly says a lot about how many people are delusional. I feel blessed to have my own mini-blogging site. I have total control over the comments, and I can say whatever I want to say like how a song about sex slapped on a music video about empowerment is mediocre nevertheless open to critics, especially feminists. Now I’m not gonna lie, a lot of these stan accounts are run by kids and who are probably on Instagram more than they are on their homework. But like them, I have the right to speak my mind, especially on my own page 🙂
