So unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, you should know that Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the Oscars because he refused to apologize for the 2nd time regarding his past homophobic tweets. After going through Twitter and some Youtube comments, I was very surprised by seeing how the majority of people agreed with Kevin and how he stepped down, defending his stance. We are in such a liberal society and I thought that more people would be against him. I’m not going to lie, when I first saw the video of him stepping down, I thought that it was pretty brave of him considering he sacrificed a gig for his own personal stance which in all honesty gives him kudo points. It would have really been disheartening to give a fake apology for money (especially for the crappy boring Oscars).
So when I did some research behind this whole scandal, I did read some of those tweets and I can understand why they are disgusting nevertheless homophobic. Many people find it to be just comedy and are even putting up the argument that people get so offended this day in age with all the PC crap going on: and I agree with this. But, if you just go read those tweets, they can be offensive. Apparently, Kevin has already apologized and he didn’t want to keep apologizing over and over. Does one apology make it right, no not really? But, there have been other Oscar hosts from the past who have done some controversial idiotic things such as blackface yet the Oscars have never let them apologize. Why is it that racial issues/situations, which the Oscars has gotten an F+ on before, in Hollywood are barely spoken of? Why is there not much of a heavily outrage on those blackface skits just like these old homophobic tweets?
Another thing that pisses me off is the fact that people have the audacity to get angry at his homophobic tweets and not necessarily the colorism tweets he made. That alone just shows how black issues, especially regarding black women, are literally just ignored in mainstream media. Like why does it have to take him pissing off the gay community for him to be “canceled”? I have two theories. One: the LGBTQ community is supported by a lot of SJWs. Now I personally don’t like SJWs for being overly radical and even hypocritical in the mechanisms they use to prove their points. A lot of them can be trolls and can definitely be bullies themselves even though they are “trying” to defend a certain group of people. Even more hypocritical many of them support certain movements a lot more than others. It’s gotten to a point many Hollywood directors promote gay rights on T.V. which is great in my opinion. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks it’s great but as long as they are civil, both sides can be at peace. But its gotten to a point where SJW’s want everyone to follow their same morals which in my opinion contradicts the whole LBGTQ movement as now you’re forcing the “other” to change their mindset. Like I heard Ryan Murphy is trying to put pro-gay right members in office and switch out those who are anti-gay. Now I don’t know too many details about this but if he wants to vote out civil anti-gay right people who aren’t pushing bias laws then yeah that’s a problem. Not everyone is going to like everyone which is sad but true; it’s life. Lol sidetrack rant over.
Second: his have offended a white community. Yes, there are black people in the LGBTQ community but let’s face it there are whites who compose the majority. Knowing the history of the Oscars and their support towards white Hollywood, it’s no surprise why they would want Hart to apologize. I just get angry that when its’ a black issue no one has that same energy. At least the LBGTQ got some type of apology from the past but black women haven’t and you know why, because society does not care. Hell, I barely see any LGBTQ members fighting about black rights or pulling out his old colorist tweets. I barely see them making a big fuss about the stigma of gay black men being problematic within the African American community in Hart’s. Plus if we are really being specific there is division/racism within the LGBTQ community so there needs to be an emphasis on that. I just hate it when people don’t keep that same energy with other groups of people and I’m tired of the media and Hollywood doing the same.
I never thought Kevin Hart was funny and I was never a fan of his. However, after looking at those tweets and OTHER problematic tweets, I have more anger towards Hollywood as its clear that people only complain when certain groups are offended. So boohoo Oscars, shame Hart, LGBTQ community, I’m saying this with support, can be EXTREMELY problematic themselves with how radical and blind they can be. So again it surprising to see the majority of people supporting Kevin Hart. It displays how fed up people are with everything being PC these days which I agree with (though this isn’t really a good example).
My exact stance on the situation: I’m team Kevin in this situation. I did feel like he was attacked and blindsided by the Oscars. The outrage, although I do understand, was out of line and proved how hypocritical social justice warriors can be. But, there needs to be more light shed on black members of the LGBTQ community because they are the ones facing the most discrimination. Of course, not many people specified race as an issue here, but the homophobia in the black community is sick and if Kevin Hart were to apologize, it would be to the black LGBTQ community. That would show real progress on his and the black community’s behalf on accepting gay lifestyles.
