With 2/3s of the R-Kelly documentary being watched, I can’t help but feel fed up with how dumb these adults were handling the situation and how long R-Kelly, a monster, got away with his bull. From his marriage to Aaliyah, his rape tape with a 14yr old, and his alleged sex cult, you think he’d be in jail by now, but no he isn’t. It’s worse how many people in the black community would still worship him and ignore (dismiss in extreme cases) the allegations made against him. It’s sad seeing how many people co-signed or stayed quiet due to being paid. Of course, no one really cares to speak up unless they are either personally impacted financially or through familial affairs.
Then again, I asked myself if I’m really surprised. There are so many black men in hip-hop culture who have abused women yet they are glorified for their music. It happens so often that society casts off the victims, which are usually black women, and the men go on to be painted as legends. R-Kelly, Dr.Dre, like come on. It’s sad to see the mistreatment of black women not being exclusive to just the black community, but also being a staple in society in general. I mean we have so many unresolved murders like the Kenneka Jenkins case, the justice system being crap like we have witnessed on television, and yes even the police being racist and irresponsible (I have a personal situation regarding this).
After all, black women are seen as the ugliest type, and we face a hell of a lot of discrimination no doubt. We are often overlooked, unrecognized, silenced, and ragged around until convenient. Just hearing that filth of a juror saying that he didn’t like the way the girls dressed or acted was so disgusting. Considering someone like him out to be partial, its depressing seeing how many forces are against black women. Our voices, looks, and personality is always in question. I guarantee you if R-Kelly’s victims were white, he would have been in jail. It’s the way this messed up society prospers.
