3 Shows That Lied To Me

Okay so I will take responsibility for falling in love with these shows and hoping that my life would be similar to the characters presented. Of course I was wrong, but sometimes the lessons presented in these shows are just bull. Looking back, I wish I hadn’t taken them to heart, but here is my list

Sex And The City

I use to stay home all day watching the reruns and absolutely gushing over the writing behind it. I still have my moments of catching it, but then I always realize how stupid the show can be. First off, Carrie’s spending was just ridiculous. I use to think to be a writer, buying expensive designer clothes, and living in an apartment in New York City as a single gal was all possible. But, it’s practically a fantasy. Also, guys aren’t that willing these days to come up to you and take their shot. I’m 19 so I don’t have much experience, but I doubt its as convenient as the show puts it out to be. A shrink’s office, really?

America’s Next Top Model

At one point I wanted to be a model at like eight years old. Of course, I grew out of it but I still had the immature mindset that I had to look a certain way to prosper. Don’t get me wrong the show displayed a diverse cast each season. However, the majority of the black girls on the show usually had straight long hair. This caused me to think that having my Afro wasn’t appealing nevertheless attractive. But, I’m glad to see girls wearing their natural hair proudly including myself.

Full House

I absolutely love Full House and many of the messages they portrayed. I use to compare my families to theirs and believe that we too have what it takes to be a happy family. Well, that was a lie. Although Full House portrays that family can get through anything, I am pretty sure that all families can’t including mine.

So this is my list. I’ll probably add more in the future, but I rarely watch TV these days. Which shows skewed your thinking back then?
