I wouldn’t consider myself part of the Beyhive, but I am a Beyonce fan. I love her songs, work ethic, and most importantly how supportive she is to her own people. So when she allegedly walked out on Reebok meeting due to the lack of diversity in the room, I simply applauded her.
Beyonce Said “Forget The Check”
These days, many celebs just take checks/gigs without researching or really getting to know the brand they are representing. We have seen this with Kendall Jenner, the whole Gucci scandal, etc. So when I found out Beyonce straight up walked out on a big company like Reebok, it made me respect her even more. Many high-end celebs don’t care about black businesses let alone diversity. It felt so great that someone like Beyonce is still on our team.
Diversity Behind The Scene MATTERS
Of course, companies like Reebok love to appeal to African Americans, yet behind the scenes, they lack diversity. As I have said a million times, what you see behind the scenes matter. It’s important to see diversity behind the brand actually contributing to the magic versus just having diverse models or a diverse audience. I know that African Americans are the minority, but in 2019 it’s still ridiculous when these corporate/business rooms have not one person of color. Like really? We have brains too. I’m happy that Beyonce did what she did and I hope other celebs wake up and do as this well because a ton
