Mr. Ratburn has gone viral. Just like many of you, I was a kid who grew up with Arthur. With the crappy flash animation, I’m surprised it’s still running. But then again, where are we going to get all our memes from.
Mr. Ratburn is Taken 💞
It wasn’t until recently Arthur made headlines for introducing Mr. Ratburn as a gay man. Apparently, in the next season, he’s going to get married to a man. I considered going on a social media cleanse due to my latest depression episodes. I become self-conscious when I am scrolling through Instagram, Facebook, etc. But when I do decide to go on my cleanse, I won’t miss the toxic and ignorant comments that spur when things like this go viral.
The Shaderoom 😑
I say all the time, that having same-sex couples in kid shows allow the LGBTQ norm to kick in. There are kids who have two parents of the same gender. It’s only fair to have these kids be represented as well. When I saw the comments on The Shaderoom, one of the most toxic but guilty pleasure Instagram pages out there, wow the homophobia jumped out. I’m not surprised considering in many Black/Hispanic families, being gay is a sin and frowned upon.
EVERY KID NEEDS REPRESENTATION👏👏👏
However, I just want to check the irony and hypocrisy. The main concern I see is that kids shouldn’t be exposed to “things” like this. They are simply too young. Ok, but is it fair to expose them to all these Disney princesses, etc who promote heterosexual couples? Why can heterosexual couples be fine but not same-sex couples? Be consistent with your arguments. Regardless, what Arthur is doing is great. I won’t watch because like I said animation is ugh. Plus, I’ve grown out of it. I know parents may have their beliefs, but like I said the intent is for the kids. It’s nice seeing social projects like this making an effort to represent every kid out there especially with all the bullying happening. Same-sex couples exist!🎤👬
