4 Unpopular Opinions About Natural Hair From A Natural

Even though I love my natural hair, I have to get some unpopular opinions off my chest. The pain is real, but the beauty of everything.

1) Heat Damage Is Easy To Avoid

I see a bunch of videos with girls doing the big chop due to having heat damage. Meanwhile, I’m over thinking this could have been avoided. A simple heat serum could have done the trick. I personally do this when I straighten or blow dry my hair and my curls always come back.

Another unpopular opinion, heat is not the devil.

2) Shrinkage Is A Pain

As much as I love taking selfies in my shrunken fro, I dare not to leave it that way. I’d be asking for single strand knots and tangles for days. Hence, you see me with twist-out the majority of the time.

Unpopular Opinion: shrinkage can be annoying if your hair is really long.

I also hate that my hair always looks short when in reality it’s medium length. I want to be able to show off my inches without depending on heat all the time.

3) Trimming Every Few Months Isn’t Enough

I usually trim my hair when it’s stretched and even so, that’s not enough. I blame myself at times due to over manipulating my hair. However, I recently did another trim and the amount of split ends I had was horrendous.

I may even do weekly trims which sucks because I would have a hard time retaining length.

4) Your Curls Aren’t Always 100%

This is one of my unpopular opinions, but our curls aren’t always as fresh as it seems. Sometimes, I redo my twist outs at night because if I don’t, they look frizzy or squashed the next day.

Unpopular Opinion: our curls don't always look good

I also think Youtubers make it seem like their hair is always on point. That’s not the case for me though, I am bless with my moisturized hair. Sometimes, my curls frizz away and shrinkage creeps back ruining my style.
