You’d think that being in quarantine would be fun. You don’t have to work, you don’t have to go to school, and you can essentially sleep all day. However, the coronavirus has ruined everything for everyone including my time in Cali. I was forced to move out along with many other students worldwide and book a flight back home.
I Left California Paradise
So here I am back at home blogging. Don’t get me wrong, I care about my health. However, because of the virus, I left my amazing living space, my paid Sony internship, my great roommates, and the amazing sunshine I needed to get out of the funk of my break-up.
Back At Home
And as much as I love my family, I cannot live with them long term. I remember once upon a time I would go back home every weekend due to shitty roommates and wanting a break from campus. But now, I love my independence and I can deal with not seeing my family for an extended amount of time.
There’s always drama back home and not long after I arrived, there was an argument between my uncle and my mom. Plus, it’s always crammed and seeing how unorganized things are here frustrates me.
Online Classes Suck
One of the worst parts of being in quarantine are the remote classes. I’d never thought I’d see the day where I actually want to go to school and have physical interactions. I think part of that mentality is because I was in California. If I were in the NYU New York campus, I would careless considering things are so depressing there.
People seem a lot more lax online and it’s so easy to tune out. No one is really in class.
I Did Learn That…
Being in quarantine did help me realize a few things. My environment has a direct link to my happiness. Being in a crammed, low income apartment has a toll on my mental health. The worse part is that I can’t even go out for a walk because there’s an authoritative plan in the works to keep people inside.
The virus has made me even more eager to work hard and move out of the projects. Now that I received the honor and the blessing of living in a house and working for a major company, I can’t wait to replicate that for myself in the future. Hopefully I help my family out in the process for everything they have done for me.
Also, I learned how stupid people generally are. Seeing a bunch of people with masks on in the airport and in the street kind of triggers me. The mask for for the sick not the healthy. Just a short PSA.
And lastly, we need to realize how screwed up our health system is especially with people lacking insurance. It shouldn’t take an epidemic to see that the healthcare system is complete trash.
